Ubisoft has announced Child of Light, a stupendously beautiful side-on game that looks a little bit JRPG.
Child of Light casts you as Aurora, a pure-hearted child (who looks a lot like Bubblegum Princess) tasked with restoring the sun, the moon, and the stars, which have been whisked away by the Queen of the Night. It’s a “reimagining” of fairytales, and – thanks to the use of the UbiArt Framework, which lets developers put concept art directly into the gameworld – it looks and sounds the part. “We want Child of Light to be like a playable poem,” said creative director Patrick Plourde, and that actually seems like a really good description.
Other than the side-scrolling exploration, players will participate in turn-based JRPG-style battles. The results should be fairly interesting, as I don’t think Ubisoft have really delved into that genre before.
Child of Light is due out digitally in 2014. Have a look at some screens and a trailer below, particularly if you want to see some lovely hair animation.
