A few weeks ago, Aion moved to a free-to-play model in Europe, and according to the latest figures in from Frogster, the move has been very successful.
The figures show that around 750,000 new players have joined the game since the subscription model was dropped from the MMO. The server stats are also showing that each day around 20,000 new accounts are also being created and the number of active daily players has also increased fivefold.
“With the successful launch of the AAA title Aion, Gameforge has heralded the start of a new era for its free-to-play sector. Further AAA titles will follow in the coming months”, said Alexander Rösner, CEO of Gameforge.
The development team are now working on the v3.0 update to te game which will raise the level cap, add new zone/instance content, new mounts and the housing system.
