Smashing: Guild Wars 2 audio recording trailer

If, like me, you’ve ever wondered how MMO developers create the sounds of an angry dwarf swinging an axe around, this Guild Wars 2 video should be of interest.
The ArenaNet developers who appear as talking heads don’t make any secret of the fact that game sounds are (like their cinematic friends) massively exaggerated for effect. Which is why most videogame gunshots sound like they’re taking place inside an echo chamber shaped like a cathedral.
Best of all is the short section showing some studio work, in which someone smashes a TV with a metal pole and another lucky fellow gets to walk a lonely, leather boot over some towels.
For further Guild Wars 2 details, you should take a look at John Robertson’s two-parter interview with Eric Flannum. Part one is here, and part two can be read here.
