Guns ‘n swords in E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy

E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy is a Source-based title that’s hoping to play the FPS/RPG hybrid game. It also has a silly name.
Then again, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines had a clumsy name too and that turned out to be a winner. E.Y.E: DC looks like it’s going for the cyberpunk-ish neo-noir feel of something like a Deus Ex, with the same kind of mesh of first person perspective and branching abilities as that title and Bloodlines.
Of course, those two titles were backed up by engaging writing (Bloodlines’ being well-written and funny, Deus Ex’s being over-written and funny) which E.Y.E hasn’t yet demonstrated. What it has demonstrated is that the game is going to be oh-so-PC based, with shedloads of menus and a distinct lack of streamlining or simplifying of concepts.
That could either be a great or terrible thing, really. No release date has been announced yet, so we’ll have to keep waiting to see how this one shapes up. The new trailer (below) deals mostly with the combat side of things.
