John Madden creator sues EA

Robin Antonick, creator of the very first edition of the long-running John Madden series of NFL titles, is suing Electronic Arts over “tens of millions” in owed royalties.
According to Reuters, Antonick is claiming that a contract he signed in 1986 with EA entitles him to royalties from derivative versions of the Madden game.
The lawsuit, filed in California earlier this week, states that “according to recent statements by Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, the current generation of software apparently derived from software developed by Antonick.”
There’s no indication as to why Antonick has remained silent on the issue for so long, but he claims not to have received a royalty cheque from EA since 1992.
The Madden creator is seeking millions in owed royalties, plus “disgorgement of all profits from the sale of the game as the result of allegedly fraudulent behavior.”
EA has yet to comment.
