McCaig: The whole entertainment industry is blending into one

“Movies and games will soon be the same thing.”
Speaking at today’s 2011 Develop Conference, Iain McCaig (principal designer and artist on Star Wars episodes one to three) believes that “movies and games will soon be the same thing.”
McCaig, whose first job in videogames was as a character designer on Lucasfilm Games’ (now LucasArts) The Secret of Monkey Island, believes this convergence represents the “most amazing time to be alive.”
His words came during Develop 2011’s Art Keynote, entitled ‘Showtime!’
“The whole entertainment industry is blending into one. This is the most amazing time to be alive,” said McCaig. “Think about it, you can go home and edit your own Hollywood grade movie. Then you can put it on the internet for millions to see.”
He went on to note that this new power-to-the-everyman ‘system’ has altered the way studios think about their products:
“It’s forcing the way we think about IP’s and it’s forcing studios to come up with new models, one that’s based on bartering and sharing. So, I want to stay alive long to see what all the young people end up doing.”
There you go young people, don’t let him down.
Another notable fact from McCaig’s talk: he designed the original Games Workshop carrier bag and logo.
