Creatures to return in fourth installment

It’s been a long time since Creatures 3 was released (twelve years in fact), but BigBen Interactive and Belgian developers Fishing Cactus are to revive the artificial life series with Creatures 4.
There were a couple of spin-offs after Creatures 3, aimed at a younger audience, but even these were released about a decade ago. If you’re not familiar with the Creatures series, it lets “real biological systems” loose inside your PC. Little chaps called ‘Norns’ wander around levels that could’ve come from a side-scrolling platform game and … learn stuff.
You see, none of it is pre-programmed, so the Norns make their own choices (perhaps aided or hindered by you) and learn from them. Each Norn has its own biochemistry, brain and digital DNA.
Unfortunately, series creator Steve Grand isn’t going to be involved with this, so it remains to be seen what direction the series will take.
Creatures 4 will be coming to PC, Mac and iDevices.
