Assassin’s Creed team take review scores

Their goal is “90-plus every time”.
Review scores still mean a lot, at least according to the Assassin’s Creed team at Ubisoft Montreal.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’ creative director Amando Amancio has stated that “On Assassin’s Creed we really pride ourselves in delivering high-quality games, we aim for 90-plus every time and we take that very seriously.”

His words come in defence of the yearly release cycle the series has adhered to since the ‘Ezio-era’ began with Assassin’s Creed II.
“Production itself takes about a year,” said Amancio, “but keep in mind we’ve planned it in advance, plus, It’s not like a hundred people crunching it for a year. It’s a huge team across many studios with different types of expertise and we fit them all together.”
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations was announced last week via an uncharacteristically low-key press release from Ubisoft.
In case you were wondering, Amancio name dropped the studios involved in bringing us the final chapter in Ezio’s trilogy (wasn’t Assassin’s Creed originally planned as a trilogy in its entirety).
“We have Quebec City that does different elements, we have Singapore that does other, we have Annecy in France, we have Bucharest, Massive in Sweden. So it’s actually a global effort.”
What do you think? Do review scores lead to success? Do yearly release cycles force developers into rushing a game?
