American Truck Simulator getting weight stations

American Truck Simulator 5

Is your rig to heavy for the road? You’ll be able to check.

Due for release next year, American Truck Simulator takes the popular trucking sim over to the US, and today the dev team revealed the addition of weight stations. When cruising around the US it’s important to make sure you fall in-line with regulations so players will be required to visit weight stations from time to time.

This is a feature that will remain exclusive to American Truck Simulator so if you have the Eurotruck Simulator then sadly this is feature you’ll miss out on. How does it work? These shots demonstrate.

I’m confused. The “weight stations” in these photos are called scales, or typically, in the US, they are owned and maintained by Cat company and most drivers refer to them as Cat Scales. Weigh (not weight) Stations, are scales that drivers have to go through from the highway, most typically as they enter a state, and are owned and maintained by the state’s DOT.

At least I get to drive something besides a silly-looking cab-over for a change. The red Kenworth in the last pic is pretty cool looking.

    • Also looks like we’ll have truck stops, or at least this hybrid of a truck top and scale. It also looks like one of those newer, fancier truck stops with that tube that goes into the window.

Those scales are at most truck stops, you pay to check the weight on each axle there, so you don’t “pay” for being overweight at a state run scale. 😉
Those tubes are pretty typical, they retrofitted quite a few existing truck stops with those, starting like 10 years ago. They supply the truck with heat and/or air conditioning, and tv and internet access. Not really sure why you would ever need to hook one up to a day cab truck though, like it shows in the one pic. It really does look like a typical truck stop, though, I’m impressed.
I wonder if we’ll get lot lizard DLC for it. 😉

        • Well, the more knowledge the better. As you can tell, I don’t know that much about trucking, other that an episode of Modern Marvels about truck stops and Ice Road Truckers. And from playing 18 WoS and ETS2. XD

If they have driver comms where you could speak into the your headset mic or something that would be cool as I think the US truck drivers use all sorts of terminiology/slang. They also hold a lot more events than the UK when it comes to trucks I think but I could be wrong.

I communicate with truckers from all over the country using a CB station during work and I still don’t understand what they are saying half the time.

USB CB peripheral should be included to get the full experience.
