The open beta for the latest title in the long-runningĀ America’s Army series – America’s Army: Proving Grounds – has just hit Steam.
Other than new weapons (like the M9, the Remington 870 MCS shotgun, and the M14EBR-RI sniper rifle, which probably makes sense to somebody) this particular iteration is going for a “back-to-basics” approach. According to project manager Marsha Berry, the team are trying for “a move, shoot, communicate system within a fun gaming experience that echoes teamwork-based Army training.”
“Just like in the Army, America’s Army: Proving Grounds focuses on creating elite, well-trained soldiers that will complete the missions as a fine-tuned team beginning with smaller, focused exercises and advancing up to larger, more complex exercises,” she added. I do like transitioning from small exercises to big exercises, so that’s nice.
Sarcasm aside, there’s a new weapon suppression system, situational awareness, a “more advanced hardcore mode”, and the game can be played in either 6v6 Battledrill Exercises, or in 12v12 Forward Line Operations that are rather more complex. So I guess that’s the transition, then.
If this sounds like it’s up your Hogan’s Alley (yes, I know that’s the FBI, but it’s a training facility and… oh, just shut up) then you can check out Proving Grounds for yourself on Steam right now.
