The ghost of Atari (now possessed by Infogrames) is restless, and only new Alone in the Dark and Haunted House titles will help it to rest. A pair of teaser sites have popped up for each game. Here’s Alone in the Dark: Illumination and Haunted House is over here.
Alone in the Dark should be a familiar name to those who know their games history, since it contributed heavily to what’s now known as the Survival Horror genre. You know, fixed camera points, third-person, a bit of puzzling and some freaky monsters. There’s barely any information about this new Alone in the Dark: Illumination, and I can’t even find much out about apparent developers Pure.
Atari have been going pretty mobile game heavy in recent times, so it’s not even certain this will be a PC launch. It lists an ‘Autumn 2014’ release date, which is kind of interesting if only because that’s the European terminology for that season.
Of the two, I actually have more confidence in Haunted House showing up on PC. That’s because the people said to be developing that title are Dreampainters, the people behind Anna (which had a pretty traditional PC launch.) Haunted House delves even further back into videogame history, as it was first on the Atari 2600 system. It, uh, also looked like this:
So it’ll presumably be getting updated a bit. This one is listed for ‘Fall 2014,’ which is the US terminology for the season. Even though Dreampainters are based in Milan.
More details about both of these games are expected at PAX, so we’ll find out whether either of them are even coming to the PC.
