Black Ops 2 goes tactical with Strike Force missions

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2‘s Strike Force missions look like they might actually require some tactical thinking from players, going by what’s on show at E3.

Treyarch has been showing off the game’s Strike Force missions, which put you in charge of taking and holding objectives by ordering troops about and calling in reinforcements, while still letting you hop into direct control of any given soldier, drone, or vehicle at any given time.

It’s hard to tell exactly how much tactical thinking the game will require, though. On the one hand, adding a pseudo-RTS element to the Call of Duty franchise seems an unlikely move, so it probably won’t be too taxing. On the other hand, the game will continue even if you fail these missions (although this will apparently affect the story) so, while not optional, you’re not going to be blocked off by a sudden shift in genre.

The Strike Force missions are the “non-linear” levels, which you can choose at various points in the campaign at the expense of locking off other Strike Force missions until your next playthrough. For more on these missions, check out our Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 preview.
