Blizzard To Digitally Distribute StarCraft II

Rob Pardo, Blizzards VP of game design told IncGamers StarCraft II will be distributed digitally from Blizzard directly.

“We’ll definitely digitally distribute it,” Pardo told us when we met him at Blizzard HQ in Irvine last month. The company has not yet made detailed plans yet, but StarCraft II will “definitely [be distributed] on the store.”

Talking about other distribution mediums like Steam, he seemed surprised we even asked: “We came before them, right? So why would we go to them when we already have the best platform out there in the PC industry?”

Retailers will get a chance to get a piece of the action before all the fans come running to Blizzard to buy the game, however. Pardo explained “what we’ve typically done in the recent past is give retailer an exclusivity window. So that’s something we’ll likely continue to do.”

Blizzard also has plans for trial versions of the game, but Pardo explained Blizzard “will do those after release though, like we’ve kind of done with all the Blizzard games. We always do those after release.”
