Paradox have announced another expansion for Crusader Kings 2: the religion-themed Sons of Abraham.

Sons of Abraham focuses on Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, and gives you all sorts of new possibilities. There’s a whole lot of Papal politics, for instance, with appointing bishops, gaining influence with the College of Cardinals, and requesting favours and cash from the Pope. On the Islamic side of things, you can wade into the debate between Mu’tazila or Ash’ari, or you can play as a Jewish lord and attempt to restore Israel. In short: lots of new mechanics, and lots of new religious events.

There’s a rather fascinating dev diary up on Paradox Plaza right now which talks about the College of Cardinals, and what happens if one of your bishops gets made Pope. Have a looksee.

Crusader Kings 2: Sons of Abraham is due out very, very soon, on 18 November. Who knows? Maybe I’ll have made another attempt at playing it by then!

(And yes, I know Cain was the son of Adam rather than Abraham but puns involving Isaac or Ishmael are a bit harder, and the rest of Abraham’s sons aren’t so well known. Shush.)
