It’s COD so it’s going to sell no matter what the game is like so the sales of $1 billion  for Call of Duty Ghosts comes as no massive surprise.

How well the game is actually received by gamers remains to be seen but so far from comments around the Intertubes have been rather lukewarm reception. We have yet to fire up our review as we need to complete the game and test all modes, but it’s coming.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick was quick out the blocks with a statement:

“Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation. More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it’s launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.”

With the next-gen consoles about to launch Activision are shouting about how great the game is and how it’s a must-have title for new console owners, but from what I have played of the game so far, I’ve not been that impressed with this latest addition to the series. You can of course listen to our initial impressions in this week’s podcast.

For PC gamers at least, and to a certain extent gamers planning to pick this up on next-gen, the lack of FOV options,  underwhelming visuals and gameplay that in my opinion feels stale may be something to take into account.

You have to wonder if the Battlefield and Call of Duty bubble is about to burst. Now that would not be good news for Activision.
