Command & Conquer alpha servers now closed – Game will be returning

Back on 29 October EA decided that the new Command & Conquer should be shut down and cancelled as the game was not turning out as they hoped.

When the announcement was made, the servers were still operating and have been for some time allowing alpha testers to continue playing. EA has now announced the closure of the servers.

We wanted to let you know that we are suspending the Command & Conquer Alpha Test and the servers will no longer be available.

Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to Command and Conquer. Your feedback and participation in this community is a crucial part of the success and future of this amazing franchise. We look forward to seeing all of you in-game in a new Command and Conquer sometime in the future.

There has never been any real clarification as to why EA decided enough was enough. A Victory Games’ employee who was working on the game subsequently stated that the closure was “total BS” and indicated that there internal politics at play.

It’s not the end of the C&C franchise though, a previous comment states it will be returning and is again confirmed in the above server closure statement.

A new Command & Conquer will be made at some point, we just have no idea when it will appear or in what form it will take. The free to play model was a nice idea but ultimately C&C fans probably expected more with a full single player campaign and some good old cheesy C&C cutscenes .

We did manage to get in-game a few weeks back to give the alpha test a send off with our IncGamers Plays video. In case you missed it, here it is again…
