Company of Heroes 2 expands to the Southern Fronts

Those brave soldiers of Company of Heroes 2 have received a care package today in the form of some free DLC and a premium Theatre of War pack. Or at least, they will. It doesn’t seem to be out yet, but we’re told it should be arriving later today.

For free, you get two new multiplayer maps – Hill 331 and Don River, which I’m guessing are based around a hill and a river, respectively – as well as Steam Workshop integration for maps created with the game’s World Builder, and a bunch of improvements which will apparently be detailed on the official website. Whether those will be substantial improvements or minor bug fixes and balance tweaks, I have no idea. Your guess is as good as mine.

You can also shell out £2.99 for the Theatre of War pack Southern Fronts, which is based around the Spring Rasputitsa in early 1943. That’s when the Red Army successfully attacked German lines to the southwest, and then the Germans rallied and retook Kharkov. This offers two solo challenges and eight AI battles, if you fancy that sort of thing.

As noted above, these don’t appear to have launched just yet but they should hit a little later today.
