Agents. Clauses. Bonuses. Words to strike terror into the hearts of all but the most stalwart football manager. It’s always a messy business, tying up a much-needed utility man for your third-rate basement outfit, but it has to be done. So it will be in Football Manager 2014, but (as ever) with a few annual tweaks, improvements and changes to the process.

Miles from Sports Interactive will talk you through them in this new Football Manager 2014 promo video (below.) He goes over new bits and pieces that can be added to contracts (like ‘clean sheet’ bonuses for defenders,) a redesigned transfer hub and changes like more mercenary players being happy to switch to rival clubs if the price is right. The bastards.

According to the trailer, the AI will also be smarter about pursuing transfers for its own club(s) and pay attention to what long-term clauses could mean for its finances. Closer to home, the assistant manager for your own club will be there to warn you about players who are about to go out of contract and waltz off into the sunset. Anyway, you can learn all about that (and more … oh my god, so much more) in the actual video.
