Creative compensation: Steam workshop now allows further revenue sharing

I’m not entirely sure what goes on in the Steam Workshop. I imagine it’s an industrial revolution nightmare of rivets, welding and small children being sucked into spinning jennies. But that’s just a guess.

If you are someone who makes and sells various items through the Workshop, you may want to toss some shared revenue the way of people who aided you in this endeavor. Maybe the makers of a third-party program you used, or someone whose advice and skills you employed. Valve says it regularly hears from “a number of item creators that are looking for a formal way of recognizing and rewarding the toolmakers and service providers that have helped them.”

Well, that feature is now included. When submitting an item to the Workshop, you can now set up some Indie Bundle-esque sliders (as shown above) to direct percentages of revenue to various third parties.

The current list of companies and organisations isn’t complete, so Valve wants to hear about who else should be included. “Jump into the TF2 and Dota 2 Workshop Discussions and tell us what other communities, individuals, or companies have helped you along the way that you’d like to be able to compensate,” they say.
