‘Critical Path’ project shares archive of mini developer interviews

Recommended Videos

If you fancy spending a lazy day watching bite-sized (30 seconds to two minute) interview chunks from some of the finest game designers, developers and thinkers of the age, then it would be wise to take a look at the ‘Critical Path’ project. Don’t be too put off by the fact that it’s page layout and typeface make it look like an album by a cooler-than-thou electronic musician, there’s some amazing stuff to be found.

Videogame industry figures including Hideo Kojima, Sid Meier, Tim Shafer, Jordan Mechner, John Carmack and many, many more (over thirty in all, at a quick count) offer their views on individual topics pertaining to game design. So you get Richard Garriott talking about “The Hero’s Journey” or Tim Schafer appealing for us not to limit what games “should” be or, yes, Peter Molyneux getting a bit sidetracked and explaining how he reads bedtime stories to his son.

They’re short (probably a bit too short, really), but informative and rather addictive to watch.
