Crytek has revealed that the Crysis IP was not originally designed around the nanosuit.

Speaking at EA’s Spring Showcase this week, Crytek’s Nathan Camarillo explained that the idea of the suit, and the combat advantages it provides, “came late in the development of Crysis 1.”

However, the suit has since become “the core of the IP” according to Camarillo who went on to say that the developer was impressed with the ways in which gamers combined the suit powers in Crysis to create their own gaming signature. For instance, some would use the Cloak and Strength abilities to play the game like The Predator, while others would use mobility and armour to attack the enemy head on.

“We wanted to refine the suit even further in Crysis 2, but still cater to these game styles,” he added.

As such, in Crysis 2 speed and jump abilities will always be on and you can then layer other powers on top to create your own style.

How did you play the original Crysis? Were you a sneaky bastard or a fearless lunatic? Let us know in the comments.
