You’ve probably already watched the Witcher 3 trailer from earlier. That was quite good, wasn’t it? Not the most cheerful video, obviously, but it sets the tone for the bleak fantasy series rather well.
Charles Dance is no stranger to grim fantasy worlds, as he’s currently busy keeping his family in line as Tywin Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones. Still, it that universe it always pays to have extra work on hand. You never know when you might just trip on some stairs and drop dead (that’s not a spoiler, relax.)
In The Witcher 3, Dance will be voicing Emperor Emhyr var Emreis of Nilfgaard (the area of No Man’s Land shown in the trailer is apparently a Northern region under Nilfgaardian ‘rule’.)
The press release notes that Dance is “the British actor and screenwriter best known for his roles in Alien 3, The Last Action Hero and Game of Thrones.” That’s probably true in the strictest sense, but as a former actor in the Royal Shakespeare Company he may or may not appreciate that summary of his career.
