Day Z moving to MMO style server-client architecture model – Release could slip

Recommended Videos

In the latest Day Z development update from Dean Hall, he outlines some of the many changes that are happening with the game right now, including the move to an MMO client-server model.

Hall explains that the current game engine is now a “massive departure” from the previous game engine, and although he says the graphics may look the same for now, much of it has been rewritten.

The game will be released on Steam so Day Z can utilise features such as Delta patching, VAC, server browsing technology. Hall appears to be impressed with the Steam technology and resources to avoid what he calls the “usual launch problems”. With the ability to tap into Steam’s  authentication, distribution, server browsing systems, it should provide a more solid experience for players.

The update goes on to outline some of the game changes which include “rethought” controls, cleaned up animations and more.  A foundation release is expected this year but Hall reiterates that if the game is not ready, they will let that date slip.
