Dead Island: Riptide nods to original with CG trailer [Video]

Stand-alone expansion, spin-off, call it what you will; Dead Island: Riptide will taking the mechanics of the original title and putting the familiar foursome in brand new, zombie-infested levels. As well as letting you continue character-progression from the previous game (if you own it), Riptide appears to be going for some continuity in its advertising campaign.

It’s difficult to watch this new CG trailer without thinking back to Dead Island’s original, attention-grabbing video. That could either be a benefit or hazard, depending on how you felt about that first video at the time and how you felt about it after playing the game.

Either way, if this is going to become a regular technique in videogame advertising then I’m dubbing it ‘pianomotional’. It’s a shame that the animation keeps this one a little on the uncanny side, because the central idea of a couple’s final moments together is pretty strong.

Dead Island: Riptide is coming to PC,PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.
