A stand-alone remake of Dear Esther, formerly a Half-Life 2 mod, will be available to buy through Steam later this year.
The title is, in the words of its developers Dan Pinchbeck and Robert Briscoe, “[A] groundbreaking game, which replaces traditional FPS gameplay with the exploration of a desolate island, a deep and emotional story and a stunning soundtrack.” Said soundtrack will be composed by Jessica Curry.
If you already happen to have played the game via its Half-Life 2 mod incarnation, you can still look out for the remake having “a completely new environment that pushes the Source engine into uncharted territory, new areas to explore and an expanded story.” The aforementioned soundtrack is also being re-done.
The team has secured a Source Engine license from Valve and will be releasing the re-made game through Steam this summer.
