Developers of Streets of Rage remake remove download links

Bombergames, the developers of a free Streets of Rage remake project, have confirmed that download links for the game have been removed following contact from SEGA.
Sometimes you make statements in news posts you live to regret, and here’s one of mine from the original news about this project: “it’s not about to be shut down without warning.” Given that Bombergame’s FAQ stated that SEGA had been contacted about legal matters, I felt the project should be safe. But I was wrong.

However, it’s not clear yet what manner of communication the team has received from SEGA, merely confirmation that “SEGA have contacted regarding the download hosted on this site. While this issue is being resolved, please do not upload the game for others to download.”
Whether this contact came in the form of a straightforward ‘cease and desist’ or something else entirely is not explained.
