Valve’s latest move to bleed us dry of cash is the ability for developers to discount their games without any intervention from Valve.
The news was spotted by a vigilant reddit user as it was announced in the Steamworks development forums. This means that developers can select to be part of the week long deals and also create custom discounts up to two months in advance.
Weeklong Deals
If you wish to participate in an upcoming weeklong deal, you can select from the upcoming promotions, up to two months ahead of time. You will then just need to enter your desired discount percentage.Custom Discount
You can also configure your own custom discount amount and date, up to two months in advance. You will be asked to enter in the dates it should run, up to a two-week maximum, and the percentage to discount by.
The whole process looks pretty simple and it’s a great addition for developers who can now plan ahead for discounts and encourage more PC gamers to check out their games. The new feature has yet to be made active.
The only negative thing about this new feature is we’ll probably see even more titles go on sale which means parting with more cash. The joys of Steam.
