Originally brought in to the Diablo 3 team to test the viability of releasing Diablo 3 on consoles Josh Mosqueira has now been promoted to the position of game director.

In a lengthy open letter to the Diablo 3 community, Josh gives more details on his development background which includes some top releases such as Homeworld, Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, and FarCry.

Before you start thinking that his development background is about as relevant as Jay Wilson’s was to the Diablo franchise, Josh states that he has a heavy background in “pen-and-paper design — specifically in telling stories and building worlds set in realms of horror and fantasy.”

Josh goes on to say that the team are determined to improve and add “new surprises” to the game which was heavily criticised after launch for not capturing the real essence of a Diablo title. He talks about players being given the ability to  customize their character’s armor, both visually and mechanically, and ways to reduce the impact of the controversial auction house which has been blamed for much of the game’s problems with the itemisation.

It’s taken a few months to get the position filled and it’s good to see a member of the Blizzard team who’s worked on the game for quite a while taking on the important role. With any luck Josh can help guide the game in the right direction moving forward to an expansion release.
