Flashback 2 announced

After 30 years, the classic platformer Flashback is getting a sequel

Flashback makes its return.

It looks like we’re getting Flashback 2, as announced earlier today. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Flashback pop up in recent times. The original game was released in 1992, with a re-release coming out on Steam in 2018. There was also a re-imagining of the game in 2013 that shook up various elements of the formula. While we’ve had plenty of versions of the game, we’ve never had a proper sequel until now.

A sequel to Flashback had been rumored since last year, but now we can confirm that it exists. Earlier today at Summer Game Fest, Flashback 2, developed by Microids Studio Lyon, was announced with a short teaser trailer. Even though the trailer doesn’t go too in-depth with the title, we can still glean plenty of interesting things. The first and most striking part of the trailer is its resemblance to the 1992 original. It bears an extremely similar style, maintaining the colorful aesthetic of the original game. Most of the gameplay shots are somewhat obscured since they’re being projected onto different objects, but the style is clear to see.

The classic platforming gameplay of Flashback seems to be making its return in Flashback 2. Conrad still seems to be a rather slow character, owing to the more methodical approach of the game. But there’s plenty here besides that as well. There are brief glimpses of combat that look to be fairly simple, as well as a small clip of Conrad riding down a zipline.

Flashback 2 – flash harder

The most impressive part of the trailer showed Conrad riding a motorcycle down a Tron-like racetrack. The general mood of the trailer heavily invokes that classic sci-fi feel, so longtime fans of the series should feel right at home with Flashback 2.

It’s been a while, but Flashback fans will finally have a new entry to play. Flashback 2‘s announcement didn’t have a more exact date beyond winter 2022, but we’re likely to see more of the game as the months go on. Stay tuned for when more information drops later in the year.
