Big news for ARPG fans that have been following Crate Entertainment’s Grim Dawn, the alpha test is now ready to.

In an update on their Kickstarter page, the Crate team reveal that there is no point messing about and the time has come to unleash the alpha version of the game on their supporters.

In the post they remind everyone that his is alpha coming from a “tiny start-up studio with a fraction of the developers and funding of major ARPG productions”. With hits such as Titan Quest under their belts already we;re pretty confident that by the time the game hits beta it will be in good shape.

I know what you are thinking now: “cut to the chase and give us the release date already”. We expect the Alpha download to go live tomorrow, May 15th. Short notice I know, but we were not screwing around when we said we planned to release it without further delay once we felt it was ready. We debated releasing next Monday to be safe but we know how eager you all are to get your hands on alpha and we are a fly by the seat of our pants kind of studio, so… here we go!

The alpha game files are being delivered through Steam with keys being distributed through the Humble Store. The build is not available on Steam just yet though although you can input your key now on Steam once you pick it up from the Humble Store.

Crate state that other download options will more than likely become available but for now Steam is the best method to get the game out in this early testing phase as it allows them to bypass the need for their own authentication server at this point in development.

There will be a DRM free version of the game as promises but not at this time.

Update: The alpha is now available on Steam and can be played.
