Crate Entertainment has been working away on their ARPG Grim Dawn for some time and more recently they have been looking at a Kickstarter project to push the game development along. Today they outlined exactly where they are in the development process in a new ‘State of the Game’ update.
Reading through the notes from the team, it’s apparent there are areas that are well on their way in the development cycle while other such as the story and world still need attention. Based on the current status, Crate thinks they could be at a stage where a basic Alpha would be possible with around 3-4 hours of gameplay.
Fans following the game are obviously looking for some sort of date for a Beta test but that will depend on how Crate want to run the test, and it sounds like they are likely to opt for a test where the game is still very much in development. A route that’s been taken by Path of Exile developer Grinding Gear Games.
With Titan Quest behind them, there is a buzz around Grim Dawn, and as a fan of ARPGs, I really hope they can make the most of what looks like a very promising title.
The ARPG is having resurgence right now with some great titles coming out, so let’s hope Crate can get the support they need to get the game complete and polished.
