LittleBigPlanet Developer Takes on Dead Island 2

Deep Silver, the publisher of Dead Island 2, has moved development from Yager Productions to Sumo Digital, developer of LittleBigPlanet and Disney Infinity. Sumo Digital relieved the move in an interview with MVU.

Dead Island 2 was originally announced at E3 2014, however, Deep Silver abandoned Yager productions in July 2015, leaving the project up in the air. Yager CEO Timo Ullmann said this on the split when it occurred:

Yager and Deep Silver’s respective visions of the project fell out of alignment, which led to the decision that has been made.

Yager filed for insolvency after losing Dead Island 2. The developer claimed this move was a direct result of losing the project.

Deep Silver announced that Dead Island 2 would be on track to release in 2016, after missing E3 2015. While Deep Silver has not confirmed the release date is still on track, the acquisition of Sumo Digital looks like a good sign for the zombie shooter in 2016.

Dead Island was released in 2011 but was heavily criticized for containing a lot of bugs. Deep Silver confirmed this week a re-release of Dead Island, and it’s expansion Riptide, in a collection on Xbox One and PS4 this May. No details have been released concerning a PC variant of the collection.
