Konami’s Metal Gear 25th anniversary event had a few surprises for everyone, but the real highlight of the event was Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which appears to be the next major installment for the franchise.
The event was host to a 20-minute demo of a new take on Metal Gear. One that now involves an open world where the player will be able to drive jeeps and call in helicopters for extraction to name some of the currently announced features.
Not to much is actually known about the 20 minute demo yet, as the viewers were asked not to tweet about what they were actually seeing. This of course didn’t stop everyone from tweeting though. A picture has been painted from all the tweets, and it couldn’t look better.
The game will be following the traditional gameplay the fans have adored for man iterations, however on a much larger scale due to the open world. It also appears that the player will have much more interaction with the world than previous games.
As for who the protagonist is, it appears that Big Boss will be returning. Having been the hero for two of the best games in the franchise, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, he now appears to be used to raise the bar again. As you can see in the image he is sporting the same emblem that Big Boss did in Peace Walker and also has an eye patch over his right eye.
No announcement was made about which system/systems the game will be available for, however it was running on a current generation PC, which would most likely imply that the game will not release until the next generation of consoles. However with development well under way already, it may make a fairly early appearance to the generation which would certainly be welcome.
