Molten Games formed by Ex-Blizzard, Relic and SOE execs with NCSoft backing

Based in San Diego, Molten Games is a new development team comprising of ex-Blizzard, SOE and Relic execs.

The new studio has received multi-million dollar backing from NCSoft to get the creative juices flowing. The team includes Paul Della Bitta who was head of e-sports at Blizzard, Jungwon Hahn who was head of Blizzard in Korea and Blaine Smith who was a former senior producer at SOE and also worked on Company of Heroes at Relic.

There’s no details as to what their first game will be, but when talking to GI¬†earlier today, Della Bitta gave a few hints regarding the business model adding:¬†“We’re just trying to take advantage of the free-to-play model, but we want people to have the same expectation of quality they would if they went and bought a $60 console game at the store.”

The new website for the company describes the operation as not being a “typical, boring, corporate, ‘go nowhere’ environment” and the team appear to be relishing the fact that it’s a small operation at this stage.

Expect a PC free to play title to be announced in the future. Let’s hope it’s not another damn MOBA or MMO.

Sounds good, hopefully we’ll see some cool looking games that aren’t with greedy pay for this and that. I’d rather buy a subscription-free mmo game. I wonder if they’d be up for porting games like Monster Hunter Online over to the West for quick cash flow for their new projects.
