Monkey Island Is Back This Summer

LucasArts today announced Monkey Island is back with two new projects based on the classic franchise.

In a few weeks, developer Telltale will premiere a new Monkey Island game series with a new story line over the next five months called the Tales of Monkey Island. The Telltale team includes designers and artists who worked on all of the previous Monkey Island games. Tales of Monkey Island will be released on PC and WiiWare.

In addition to this, LucasArts will also internally develop and re-release a special edition version of The Secret of Monkey Island (the first game of the franchise) this summer. The updated version adds high definition graphics, a re-mastered musical score, and full voiceover to the adventure game from 1990. The game will be launched onXbox LIVE and PC.

“We couldn’t be any more excited about bringing Monkey Island totoday’s gamers – both in our special edition of the original classic, and through our collaboration with Telltale on the episodic series,”said LucasArts’ President Darrell Rodriguez. “We can’t wait forGuybrush Threepwood and LeChuck to return to gamers’ screens.”

These two titles will hopefully revitalise the much-loved franchise.LucasArts also released this Monkey Island art trailer to preview the quality of the game.
