Mortal Kombat outperforms Portal 2 in US

NPD results show Mortal Kombat was the best selling game in the US through April.
NetherRealm’s fighter outperformed Valve’s space-bending shooter, shifting nearly 900,000 units during April.
We liked both games here at IncGamers, our Mortal Kombat review describing the game as “silly… crude… easy to learn and eminently charming” while our Portal 2 review highlights the puzzler as “an early game of the year candidate.”
Portal 2 finished the month in second, with Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 filling the remaining top five spots.
The Xbox 360 saw the greatest number of software sales overall, followed by the Nintendo DS. The PS3, Wii, DS and 360 all saw greater sales than the same period in 2010.
Anita Frazier, analyst for the NPD group also highlighted a couple of games that would have an made appearance based on console-specific sales: “Games that would appear in the top ten ranking on a SKU basis for April include Pokemon Black and SOCOM 4: US Navy Seals. If sales of the SOCOM Move accessory bundle were combined with software sales, this game would have ranked in the top ten titles as well.
