NCsoft has spoken to IncGamers about the possibility of a sequel to the City of Heroes MMO, after the revelation that it recently registered two “City of Heroes 2” trademarks.

As we reported yesterday, the company registered the trademarks which will allow it to make computer games and other online entertainment under the CoH2 title. No sequel to the popular super-hero MMO has been announced, so fans were obviously wondering if this means the new game is being worked on, even perhaps close to release.

In response to our inquiry, NCsoft told us “City of Heroes is a flourishing franchise and continues to be the world’s most popular super-powered hero MMO. While we cannot comment on City of Heroes 2 at this time, NCsoft is proud of City of Heroes’ success and is looking forward to future product launches associated with the franchise, including the next expansion – City of Heroes Going Rogue, scheduled for release this July.”
