Path of Exile’s largest expansion “coming up really soon”

It’s been a big year for Path of Exile as Grinding Gear Games get ready for another update.

There’s not many ARPG developers that manage to crank out as much content as the guys at Grinding Gear Games managed in 2014. There’s been two expansions and a whopping 51 patches alone. With the game being free to play, GGG need to be continually improving and adding new features to keep the community enthused.

This tactic appears to have worked because GGG managed to beat their 2013 concurrent user record of 70,000 this year by reaching an impressive 154,300 players playing concurrently. The release of the two expansions Sacrifice of the Vaal and Forsaken Masters will have played a major part in reaching that goal which means GGG will likely keep on creating new content at the same rate next year.

7 million new players also signed-up for the game in 2014 which is a sizeable player base, although there are no actual numbers released for currently active accounts, which is to be expected.

What now for Path of Exile? We know that in October GGG were midway through development of their next expansion which will include the eagerly awaited Act 4. Today CEO Chris Wilson hinted again at the next expansion saying:

“2015 is going to be a huge year, with our largest ever expansion coming up really soon.”

We’re not quite sure what “really soon” could mean, but at least we know they’re already planning its release. March would seem like a reasonable estimate based on the previous expansion release time frames.

If the Act 4 content release appears sooner than March then even better, but we’ll keep you up to date when we know more from GGG.
