Action-RPG Sacred 3 has hit Steam today, to a resounding chorus of “oh dear” from the Steam userbase.
The title has been reasonably highly anticipated, particularly thanks to the much-loved Sacred 2, and as such it looks to be selling pretty well. I mean, it’s been a regular in Steam’s Top Sellers list for at least the past week. Unfortunately, it also has a 100% negative rating via Steam’s user reviews. It does have a fair number of positive reviews, but the negative ones appear to outweigh them so much that it’s still listed as having 100% negative reviews. That’s not overly promising.
Many of the complaints apparently focus on the fact that Sacred 3 isn’t really a Sacred game; rather than being a big open ARPG, it’s a linear hack-and-slash game. “A bit like Bastion,” says one review, although I can’t say I really consider that a criticism. That said, other complaints talk about a lack of variety in enemies, special abilities, and a total lack of loot, which does sound like a bit of a problem.
We didn’t receive a review copy of Sacred 3 and thus we have absolutely no opinion. Is it bad? Is it actually quite good, but nothing like its predecessors? No idea! If nothing else, though, it sounds like you’ll probably want to avoid this if you’re after something similar to Sacred 2.
See for yourself over on Steam.
