Star Citizen crowd funding Surpasses $3 million mark

Today Chris Roberts’ new space sim Star Citizen has surpassed the $3 million mark in crowd funding and is well on its way to hitting $4 million in funds.

The pledges have come through both the  Kickstarter campaign and their own crowd funding drive with a total of 44,000 backers for the project.  Roberts added:

“It’s hard to believe we’re already at this important milestone. It’s far beyond our initial objective and well into some of the stretch goals…and we still have 10 days left in the campaign. This amazing success is all thanks to our incredible fans.

“This is extremely exciting for me and our team because it will enable us to create the game we’ve been talking about to our fans over the past month. But we can do even more. I’m still hoping that we’ll reach four million dollars before we close. This will allow us to do more sooner, especially on things like our modder tools.”

A further drive for funding was launched this week with a pledge referral program to encourage backers to get their friends to join in and raise more cash for the title.

The Kickstarter still has ten days to run so it’s likely that $4 million mark will be reached which proves that if you have a good track record in the industry there’s a much better chance of hitting and surpassing crowd funding goals.
