Star Wars Galaxies will go supernova in December

In what may well be a response to the looming MMO giant Star Wars: The Old Republic, Lucasarts and Sony Online Entertainment have announced that Star Wars Galaxies will close in December.
A statement published on the game’s website reads: “On December 15, 2011, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and LucasArts will end all services (MMO and Trading Card Game) for Star Wars Galaxies (SWG)”.
From today, three, six and twelve month subscriptions will no longer be offered for the game. On 15 September, Star Wars Galaxies will no longer be sold at retail outlets, or through digital distribution.
The developers are planning a “galaxy-ending in-game event” in December which promises to see the title out “with a bang”.
