Star Wars: The Old Republic didn’t do too well in its first year with the players dropping off sharply after launch.  Last year the game finally went free to play but how did that work out for SWTOR?

Executive producer Jeff Hickman revealed that the game has seen an increase in 2 million players since the game went free to play which he says has significantly improved server populations.

“So how did it go? Well, you can see for yourself when you log in to the game. Our new, high capacity servers are teeming with people. Since launch of the Free-to-Play option we have had over 2 million new accounts created and have thousands of new players jumping in every single day. This means more people to play with, more growth for your guilds, more Warzone matches, and more ways for players to continue to advance their characters.”

The first digital expansion Rise of the Hutt Cartel is due for release soon and there’s plans in place for players to be  able to change a character’s hair style, eye colour, body type, and species using Cartel Coins. This feature is expected to roll out this summer according to Hickman.
