The Steam Summer sale is coming to a close and PC gamers were mad for it over the weekend. Bargain hunters dashed on to Steam and helped break a new user record.

Dureing the Steam Winter Sale last December the concurrent user record reached 7.6 million but that’s now been trumped. Over the weekend, as this latest sale comes to a close, a peak of 8,020,679 gamers were utilising Steam.

Numbers are now starting to level out and as of writing 6,931,916 users are on Steam which is excellent considering it’s Monday.

Games that proved popular with players overs the weekend were the usual suspects of DOTA2, TF2 and GS:GO.

Garry’s Mod also made the top five games after selling an additional 152,000 copies during the sale which according to Garry Newman was “50 times the normal daily average!”.
