It’s quite a common approach in PC gaming these days; offer your potential players paid access to the development build of the game you’re working on, and allow them to offer feedback that can shape and improve the title. Valve has recognised that quite a few games on Steam are doing this, so it has grouped them together under the banner of ‘Early Access.’
Familiar ‘paid alpha’ titles like Arma 3 are already there, alongside top-tier indie offerings like Prison Architect.
“Greenlight helped us raise awareness for Kinetic Void, and now Steam Early Access will let us continue the development of our game while gathering crucial feedback, input and support from the steam Community,” says Sean Pollman of Badland Studio. Kinectic Void is one of the twelve titles launching the Early Access program.
Here’s the full list:
· 1… 2… 3… KICK IT! (Drop That Beat Like an Ugly Baby)
· Arma 3
· Drunken Robot Pornography
· Gear Up
· Gnomoria
· Kenshi
· Kerbal Space Program
· Kinetic Void
· Patterns
· Prison Architect
· StarForge
· Under the Ocean
It’s difficult to decided whether the best-named game in that lot is 1… 2… 3… KICK IT! (Drop That Beat Like an Ugly Baby) or Drunken Robot Pornography. Either way, I approve.
