Thanksgiving Digital Download Sales Round-Up

While Thanksgiving is undoubtedly bad news for turkeys, it presents a much sunnier outlook for PC gamers – who not only avoid the risk of being killed and eaten, but can take advantage of multiple digital download sites going all sales crazy for the duration.
Click through for a cheapskate round-up.
Heavyweight Steam has just launched its “Give and Get” sale, which will run from, well, today to 29 November. As is usual for Steam, there’ll be daily deals every day (today’s offerings include 75% off Alpha Protocol and 70% off Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse) and discounts on much of the store catalogue.
The spirit of giving has obviously struck Valve, because every day will see a selection of gift packs being offered on the cheap. If you’ve ever had the urge to donate Deus Ex to somebody, an eight pack can be had today for $12.00 USD. In addition, 30 randomly selected Steam users will be getting the top five games on their wishlists absolutely free for each day the sale runs – so keep that list updated, you might get some games without even doing anything.
Over at GamersGate, you can get hold of various games at discounts of up to 75% off. X3: Terran Conflict has 60% knocked off the price, pretty much every game in the Painkiller series is half-off and good old Medieval 2: Total War can be had in Gold Edition form for $5.00 USD.
Impulse is getting in on the Thanksgiving sales action as well, offering the excellent Tropico 3 for $7.50 USD and Resident Evil 5 for $10.00 USD, amongst many others.
Emphasising the giving part of Thanksgiving, Direct2Drive has opted for an ‘every fifth game is free’ scheme. From now until 31 December, you stand the chance of paying absolutely nothing for any purchase you make – if you’re lucky enough to be the one in five. Of course the only downside to this is that D2D are owned by News Corp, so you’d risk putting money in Murdoch’s pockets.
There should be a cheap game for everyone in that little lot, so there’s no excuse to be doing anything foolish like spending time talking to your family this holiday season.
