Tribes Ascend downloaded 1.2 million times

Let one million “Shazbots” ring out in unison, because Hi-Rez Studios has announced that Tribes Ascend, the free-to-play rejuvenation of the Tribes series, has been downloaded 1.2 million times to date. That presumably includes the beta period, prior to its ‘official’ 12 April launch.
“We’re thrilled that over 1 million gamers have discovered the fast-paced and skill-based gameplay of Tribes,” says Hi-Rez’s Todd Harris, as he jetpacks into the sky and trains his spinfusor on a distant target.
1.2 million downloads probably won’t equate precisely to more than one million players (after all, I downloaded it twice in the course of previewing and reviewing the game), but it’s clear that the title has found a dedicated and sizeable audience. Hi-Rez reports that 110,000 players have joined through the ‘friend referral system’, for example.
