Following a few days teasing on Twitter, TRION has announced Trove which they describe as an open-ended voxel adventure.

With this new project there’s a heavy emphasis on community interaction during the development process and Trove will be launching during the alpha phase of development to encourage community feedback.

The game will feature “fully buildable and destructible worlds” and it’s a free to play adventure RPG that’s been developed by a small team at TRION over the past twelve months. The game will be compared to Minecraft in style but we hope that the team can utilise what TRION has learned from developing games such as RIFT to make this something a little special.

Players will create unique characters and many the staples of an MMO are being included such as crafting. Your character is persistent and each player has what they call a Cornerstone, your home base that will travel with you from from world to world. The Cornertone is also be the place where you store and collect anything from previous worlds to take with you as you progress. These worlds have objectives players will need to complete as a collective or on their own to finish the world before moving on to something new. Think of each world as a big sandbox that does actually have a completion goal.

The concept does sound interesting but TRION are going to have to get over the hurdle of being compared to Minecraft, Cube World and even EverQuest Landmark to a degree.

Alpha sign-ups are now live and they say that an Alpha could be “weeks rather than months” to get off the ground.

If the trailer below grabs your attention then get your name down now.
