Riot Games has pulled the plug on Ultra Rapid Fire mode for League of Legends, but makes a promise that it’ll be back someday. Ultra Rapid Fire mode was introduced on April Fool’s Day and gave all champions the “Awesome Buff of Awesomely Awesome Buffing.” Far as I can tell, that pretty much turned the game into one of those hyperactive Saturday morning kids shows.
It massively reduced cooldown speeds, raised attack and movement speeds, increased critical strike and gold income, and basically made everything super fast and XTREME. A portion of League of Legends fans seemed to take to it, and Riot has promised that the mode “will come back in one form or another.” Until such time, players will just be left with memories and video compilations of Ultra Rapid Fire mode in action. Riot put together a set of some of the best, here.
Comments beneath the announcement of Ultra Rapid Fire’s temporary retirement suggest that the community would like to see it come back to League of Legends sooner rather than later.
“Ultra Rapid Fire revived my waning interest in the game, please don’t take this experience away from us players,” says a post by somebody calling themselves HagenBacon. “I feel the success of U.R.F was due to the stress free environment it created, as everyone was there to REALLY have fun, not just win,” added someone going by the name Gladius Bellator.
