Valve’s E3 Surprise Is Portal 2-Related After All

A fresh Aperture Science-penned press release has emerged from Valve, confirming a delay for Portal 2 and attempting to put various E3 rumours to rest.

“Portal 2, the sequel to the ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date, is now targeted for a 2011 release,” the release states. This replaces the original ‘Holiday 2010’ release date prediction, and may explain why the Portal 2 press event for E3 was cancelled.

In suggesting that the Portal 2 event would be replaced by a ‘surprise,’ however, Valve unwittingly (or perhaps wittingly) unleashed a torrent of internet speculation. With Half-Life 2: Episode 3 already ruled out, we can now probably end the rest of the guessing games too.

Today’s press release amusingly describes the E3 surprise in all-caps terms as “***PORTAL-2-THEMED-FOR-GOD’S SAKE***”
