World of Battleships is now World of Warships

Wargaming has decided to change the name of upcoming free-to-play naval battle MMO from World of Battleships to World of Warships.

In the words of Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi, the name change was taken to “more accurately reflecting the game’s core essence”. It’s also more in line with one of the company’s other titles, World of Warplanes.

Perhaps World of Tanks is going to be changed to World of Wartanks?

In light of the name change, Wargaming has moved to reassure us all that the gameplay hasn’t changed. The game “will still focus on straightforward naval action gameplay, including accessible controls, historically accurate vessels and combat, as well as a deep and engaging upgrade and customization system,” says the company.

World of Warships is due sometime in 2013.
